Having problems with Java?

You need Java in order to upload files to Insite and to view virtual proofs online in Smart Review.

There has been a rash of security concerns with Java lately. Kodak is aware of this and is actively working to rewrite the Insite software so that our customers will not have to have this piece of software plug-in on their machine if they don't want to. Insite is a very large website though and it will take time.

Until then, WWO recommends that all users (Mac and PC) install and maintain an updated version of Java for the operating system they are using. Keeping software up to date is the best security measure you can take. At this time there are no known reasons or InSite limitations that would prevent users from updating Java. Unless otherwise posted you should continue to keep your Java up to date. If you are experiencing any issues with uploading, downloading or Smart Review you should first update Java. If you continue to have problems with InSite then contact your CSR or prepress.

Our Resources for Java problems.

Please check out our guide to using Insite. It has instructions for checking to see if Java is up and running on your machine

These guide, Kodak system requirements for Insite and Kodak's Quick Start guide to Insite, have a more in-depth explanation your computers system requirements. They will also have a more complete explaination of the Insites capabilites and how to use the "system diagnostics tool".

It's not us, Apple may have deactivated your Java!

Around 1/31/2013 Apple installed an update on  OSX computers that is causing issues with Java and InSite. Check out the following links: "Apple's AntiMalware blocks Java 7 again", and "XProtect update blocks unpatched Java versions in OS X". At this time, the following instructions are the only known fix.

1. Log into the machine as Administrator and open Terminal.

2.  Enter the following command into terminal:
sudo /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c "Delete :JavaWebComponentVersionMinimum" /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources/XProtect.meta.plist (all on one line)

3.  Hit Return

4.  You will be prompted for your password.

5.  Reboot the machine.
